I do hair for a living so I am always interested in new products or techniques that will make my life easier or my hair healthier. Here is one that will do both! It gives you bouncy curls and beautiful waves with almost no work and no heat. Amazing!
I have tried this 3 times now and gotten amazing results. I found that if I put a tiny bit of spray gel in to the hair before I roll it up and don't brush it out, like she does on the video, It will stay perfect all day and still looks nice the next day!
Sadly, I can't take credit for the idea but it is awesome and worth sharing. Everyone who has long hair and is a little short on time take a look at this! (I just think this girl is the cutest.)

Natural Hair Highlights
It is spring time here and the sun is finally out. We have dug out the shorts, tank tops, and flip flops. I love this time of year when it is not yet too hot to go play outside. However, for me, it means a lot of work and being in the salon. It seems that when everyone sees how white their skin is they need to highlight their hair. To look like they have gotten some sun?
I use the No Poo method or MSM on everyone who comes in so I attract a a lot of clients who are chemical sensitive or who just don't want to be exposed to that many chemicals.
Even Natural girls want to look pretty and glow like they have been in the sun. For you, my loves, I do have some ideas.
Goddess Glow
This time tested recipe has been around since the Ancient Greeks but was at it most popular during the heyday of the Roman Empire.
Ingredients:
3 to 4 fresh Rhubarb stalks
2 C. water
1 T. honey
Combine all ingredients in a blender, and process till smooth. Strain mixture into a clean container. To use, massage the mixture into your hair. cover with plastic wrap or a warm towel. This step is important because you want you body heat to help the lightening process. Allow it to set for 30 minutes. (The longer it sets the stronger the lightning properties) Rinse well.
Kissed by the Sun Tea
This is a natural way to lighten hair and lovely to try when you plan on spending time at the pool or the beach.
Ingredients:
1 C. strong Calendula or Chamomile tea
1/2 C. freshly squeezed lemon juice.
Combine tea and lemon. Strain out any lemon floaters. Work mixture into clean hair and blot dry. Use before going out into the sun. Rinse well when you come in. (This mix turns out a bit more golden than the other)
Note* As with all hair color you will want to condition you hair really well. I put coconut oil in my hair about once a week to make sure the ends stay healthy.

How to get gum out of hair!
Today a friend of mine came over with her little girl... Not for a visit. They were both in tears and needed help. Kayla had a big wad of bright green bubble gum in her hair. (up on top where you never could hide it)
Now, little boys who get gum in their hair get their head shaved. They love it, they look cool, and not to much harm done.
Little girls on the other hand....
So if you find yourself in this predicament march yourself out to the garage and grab the WD40! I am not kidding. It works way better than peanut butter.
First separate as much hair away from the gum as you can. Then pull out any gum that is not attached to any hair. Next generously spray the gum and hair with WD40 and work it in. Pull out any gum that comes loose and then spray again. Repeat till all gum is gone and then wash you hair.

Yucca Shampoo
I have not been using shampoo for quite a while now and I have never been happier with my hair. You can read all about the vinegar/baking soda method (here).
Here in the Desert Southwest it is very common for the Native girls to use Yucca shampoo.
Yucca is a desert plant that is associated with the Earth Goddess by the locals. It is said that having one in your garden promotes balance with nature. Just like it's blossoms that spring up in the summer it helps us to rise above the prickly painful parts of life and Bloom beautifully.
The Yucca is a leathery plant whose leaves are very sharp and pointed. It does very well in the hot dry climates here but on the years that it rains..... Just beautiful!
You can buy the root at a health food store. The dried root works every bit as well for making soap. If you do decide to dig your own please be careful to save the plant. This is actually pretty sustainable if we don't kill the plants. The roots of the Yucca grow in the shape of a capitol T. Only take one of the arms of the T, the plant will live and you will have enough for a whole year.
Use 2 Cups rosemary (for dark hair) or Chamomile (for light hair) tea. Mix it with powdered/crushed yucca root.
Use enough on your hair to work up a mild lather. Keep the left over in the refrigerator.
I tried this and it is just amazing! It made my hair so shiny and it felt so thick. It also seemed to bring out my natural curl. If you want to spice up your No Poo routine I defiantly recommend this one.

No Poo!
I have a confession to make....
I do hair for a living and I haven't used shampoo or conditioner in over 6 months. Really!
I know what you are thinking. Ewwww. To be honest though my hair has never been this healthy or shiny. It is growing so fast and has lots of body. I feel like the girl in the pantine commercials. (and I even bleach some of it)
I started looking into shampoo alternatives for my daughter who is very sensitive to chemicals. I found that there are lots of different things you can do. I picked baking soda ans vinegar.
All you have to do is put a big heaping tablespoon of soda in about 8oz of water and use that instead of shampoo. It will not bubble so you just have to have faith that it is cleaning your hair. (make sure to rinse) Then you take 1 or 2 tablespoons of vinegar or lemon and mix with 8 oz of water and use as the conditioner. Any acid will work. all you are trying to do is lower the PH of the hair back down to 4 or 5 so the cuticles will close. So you brunettes can use beer and the red heads can use wine if you want. Be advised that you will smell like your acid of choice until your hair dries.
If I need a bit more moisture on the ends I just use a dab of coconut oil.
Try it you wont be sorry.
